Yes they are! They have been releasing snippets of their upcoming self-titled album. And the first single “What You Want” is already out. Some says that this new single doesn’t sound like Evanescence, and some fans are thrilled and some are disappointed. Either because this doesn’t sound like ‘Fallen’ or this doesn’t sound like ‘The Open Door’. Or simply because it is too commercial.
In my opinion, the single is catchy. But catchy to me doesn’t mean commercial. But hell, Evanescence is a commercial band since the Fallen/Bring Me to Life era. Their pre-Fallen materials are the one that are not commercial.
Okay, back to business.
I like their single. The first time I heard the snippet, I was like, huh? And the first time I listened to the full song, I was still confused. But the more I listen to it, I realize that it is a powerful and awesome songs. The drums, the guitars, the piano, the strings, the synths and all that. It is that kind of song that will blast once you play it in a good stereo system out loud. It has melody, and rhythm, and rock sound in it. The lyrics are good, not the best thing from all their stuffs, but it has a meaning. When Amy sings it, she sings it for the fans. Especially when she sings, “every hours slipping by, screams that I have failed you.” Ouch. It’s okay Amy, we still love you! But the lyrics can have many perspectives. It can also be understood as an urge inside of you to do what you want and live your life, and that “only love can guide you home”.
Among all these ‘commercial’ Pitbull-Jason Derulo-Akon dance songs, Evanescence makes a good comeback. Too bad it is not well noticed. I guess rock music is not rocking in nowadays industry.
I realized that some faithful fans have lost their faith during the 5 years wait, or maybe some of them do not know that Evanescence is releasing a new material. But I am happy that I can enjoy the part of the waiting. From all the stuffs like Amy Lee’s Solo Album til all those wait on new-album-will-be-released-this-fall. I have to admit this is the first time I know the names of ALL the band members, and admire them. (Will Hunt!) And the news spread that they wrote together and jammed together in this album is good too.
Well, October is getting near.. Stay around EvFans ;)
One of the new songs that got played in their recent performances is ‘The Change’. I am really into this song. I found a HQ video in YouTube, but it is an audio-only.

EVANESCENCE – THE CHANGE
Lyrics (gathered from YouTubers interpretations)
thought that I was strong
I know the words I need to say
frozen in my veins
I let the moment slip away(*) I’ve been screaming on the inside
and I know you feel the pain
can you hear me?
can you heal me?
is it over?
yes, it’s over
but I need you anyway
say you love me
but it’s not enoughnever been too right
but I’m not the girl you think you know
the more that I’m with you
the more that I am all alone(*)
now that I’m so different
now that I dont see you
dying under what we use to be
now that I forgive you
just change
and I will lay here by your side
I’m about to lose my mind
’cause I’ve been screaming on the inside
and I know you feel the pain
can you hear me?
can you heal me?you’ve been dreaming
if you’re thinking that I still belong to you
I’ve been dying ’cause I’m lying to myselfsay it’s over, is it over?
but I need you anyway
say you love me
but it’s not enough

lol finally i get to know what u think about the new single by eva, i’m waiting till the album is released. i’m sure it will be a chart topper, there is so much anticipation for it.
Unfortunately, I do not feel the song exemplifies my writing technique, but I didn’t write song for the new album. Actually, the writer did try to copy the technique but the true pain and agony was very real which cones through in the earlier songs. I started writing the songs for the other albums at the age of 15 in 1983. No, I am not Amy Lynn Hartzler, but the real Amy Lee, discovered by Joe Elliott of Def Leppard and a yet unknown Kurt Cobain. I have started a new blog here to get feedback from fans and hope you will visit for the real story behind Evanescence as well as the other artists I wrote songs for.
did you write for their EPs too with Ben Moody and David Hodges back there in Little Rock? Solitude, Field of Innocence, Understanding, So Close, Farther Away? uh what, okay nevermind.
What the heck are you smoking ?
I want it too..
Moody is actually not his real name but a stage name. He was named for a town in Alabama which is near where I grew up in Alabama. William Gray’s nickname “Rocky” came from Tommy Lee of Motley Crue giving me the nickname Bullwinkle (Rocky & Bullwinkle). I suggest you read Motley Crue’s very trashy book “The Dirt”, I am mentioned on the 1st page and can be read on Amazon. Just as Amy Lynn Hartzler’s real name is not Amy Lee. The name for the band came from a review about A Chorus Line Oct ’83 which is where I also got the idea to write the song Like A Virgin for Madonna. This is all posted on my blog. Almost all of the songs leading up to the 2006 The Open Door Album were written by me. I also was involved in designing the album covers and the logo.
how ever much i doubt your articles, i just want to commend your highly developed skill in prose. i found them an entertaining read. keep writing.
